3D Secure

EdfaPay supports 3D Secure (3DS) authentication to provide an additional layer of protection for online card transactions. This feature helps reduce fraud and meet compliance requirements such as SCA (Strong Customer Authentication) under PSD2. Currently, 3DS is available in test mode to allow merchants to simulate the flow and integration.

What is 3D Secure?

3D Secure is an authentication protocol used to confirm a cardholder’s identity during online payments. When 3DS is triggered, the cardholder is prompted to complete an extra verification step—such as entering a one-time password (OTP), confirming via biometric ID, or using a bank-provided code.

Popular brandings of 3DS include:

  • Visa Secure

  • Mastercard Identity Check

  • American Express SafeKey

Testing 3DS

3DS flows can currently be tested in test mode using supported test cards. This helps ensure your integration behaves correctly when 3DS is triggered in production.

The image below shows the test-mode simulation pages for authentication during payment processing:

  • Left side: 3D Secure (3DS) Test Page – This page appears on test mode only and is designed to simulate the 3DS challenge flow, where a cardholder would typically verify their identity via their bank.
  • Right side: OTP Test Page – Also in test mode, this screen simulates an OTP (One-Time Password) entry step. It appears during S2S test transactions to represent user confirmation.
